| Introducing MIYA Coffee |
| Gosh it feels good, when you do something right. You sit down with a cup of coffee close your eyes, and for a second or two, everything seems right with the world. |
| So it was after a brainstorming moment when the 3 of us sat round a table and created MIYA Coffee. We wanted to do something a bit different and as far as we were aware, MIYA is the first coffee in the world to be 100% Fairtrade, 100% Organic and to have offset all its carbon emissions from the 7000 mile journey from Colombia to here in the UK. |
| Many of our customers are into buying locally produced organic foods. Local farmers and we were feeling distinctly left out as our latest coffee growing efforts in the wet Southampton climate amounted to nothing. So, we thought if we can’t benefit local farmers, we should do the next best thing and benefit the organic coffee growing farmers while offsetting the carbon produced from the extensive journey to get here – (including 5500 miles across the Atlantic). |
| And so it was, that ‘MIYA’ coffee was created. With the image of hope for the future, we chose a name loosely derived from the Colombian word meaning ‘My daughter’. We wanted to offer help to three important groups. Put simply we wanted to: Help Others, Help the Environment and Help Yourself. |
| Wow, that’s going to be difficult to do’, said one, but ‘Damn the expense, - it’s the right thing to do’. I was on a mission. Without skimping, we chose the pure Arabica beans from the Popayan region in Colombia for their lovely subtle velvety overtones and delightfully smooth taste. Then it was up to us to make MIYA a reality. |
| Helping Others was an easy decision to make. The Fairtrade Premium goes straight back to the 3rd world farmers to benefit them at source. The Fairtrade organisation guarantees a better deal to Colombian farmers. |
| Helping the Environment – working out how much carbon was produced from the 7000 mile journey was not that easy, but after a detailed study on emissions from various different modes of transport involved we multiplied the answer by 3 just to make sure. Miya is now proud to be supporting projects such as the reforestation of the Kibale National Park in Uganda. |
| Helping Yourself – Well, it’s all well and good saving the planet, but the coffee has to taste good as well. That’s why we insisted Miya coffee was 100% Organic and came from the best plantations in Colombia. |
| MIYA coffee is available with loads of point of sale material (all offset). This helps you all to shout out to the world that there is a coffee that cannot be locally produced, but certainly can bring the rest of the world a little bit closer together. |
| MIYA coffee is available as Espresso Beans, Ground Filter coffee and Swiss Water Processed Decaffeinated. Call us on 023 8022 6215 for a sample. |
